Dalboy

Gem in Peru. Would strongly recommend to stay here (specially with families) instead of Cusco as its a beautiful area and the hotel itself is much more relaxing. Photos on the website do not do justice to the expanse and beauty of the property. Game room is a bonus with the kids. Food is excellent and though initially we had some difficultly with vegetarian options, the kitchen finally made some great dishes. Service in restaurant is slow. SPG recognition: Breakfast is awesome and is a great perk that I hope will remain even after the Marriott merger. The manager didn't reach out even once to check-in during my stay but the staff overall recognized us and other guests in the hallways. I didn't get any upgrade (no availability) for the first time in many years of travel so that was disappointing. However, the basic room i stayed in would qualify as a "suite" in Cusco - it was huge and well appointed. Bathrooms are luxurious and very practical with families. Rooms have a huge closet too. Rooms are very quiet and overall the property is beautiful and serene to walk in. We stayed 5 nights and would recommend others to make this as a base to explore Machu Picchu and other sites. The onsite train station is very impractical specially with the new shift system at Machu Picchu - better to take the 9 odd am train from Olly and the the 6:10 pm train back - that works out much better. The Spa was wonderful too. Overall, a great experience for a Category 5 hotel (would be Category 6 easily in the US)
